Real Madrid Stadium Development - What New For Bernabéu?

August 31, 2022

The club president has announced the Real Madrid stadium development. Florentino Pérez claims: "For years to come, Real Madrid's future will be etched in the hearts and minds of its fans thanks to the feelings sparked by the team's performances at the new stadium.”

Real Madrid Stadium Renovation Plans

If we are crowned the best club of the 21st century at the century's conclusion, then the best stadium in the world is the place to do it. There will be a new stadium, a rich history, and a renewed sense of pride among our fan base ".

Aside from making the Santiago Bernabéu a more contemporary, pleasant, and secure arena, the renovations will also add leisure, restaurant, and entertainment spaces. The project's core focus is on the use of technology. The stadium will have a special section for e-sports, and the arena will feature a state-of-the-art 360-degree scoreboard.

After the renovation, the Santiago Bernabéu will be transformed into a "digital arena," where cutting-edge technology and audio-visual equipment will be accessible to fans in various stadium sections. For example, with a second screen, clubs can provide content for their followers to enjoy on their mobile devices and tablets during games.

Developing the Museum

The Paseo de la Castellana area will also focus on a major renovation at the museum. The Padre Damián neighborhood will soon be home to the museum's newest interactive exhibit, which will showcase cutting-edge VR technology and increase the museum's overall size.

With the introduction of a panoramic tour, which will take tourists around the stadium's outer ring, the route covered in the Tour Bernabéu will also be expanded.

The urban area surrounding the stadium will also benefit from the construction of this project, as it will result in the creation of a large square (over 20,000 m2) on the Paseo de la Castellana and a smaller square (5,500 m2) on the corner of Padre Damián, with the latter leading to the pedestrianization of the calle Rafael Salgado.

Because there will be additional entrances to the stadium, safety, convenience, and egress for all fans will be enhanced. There are plans to demolish the existing shopping center and replace it with two skyscrapers on the Castellana that will feature their elevators, escalators, and ramps. New escalators along the Castellana and Padre Damián that will serve the stadium's highest points will help streamline fan movement.

Real Madrid Stadium Development In Shopping Area

Two Real Madrid stores will open up in the complex, further enhancing the shopping options available. The public spaces of the new stadium will be transformed into a shop window for the world's newest items with the introduction of a unique shopping experience with digital points of sale showcasing merchandise from the world's most prominent technology and consumer goods firms.

Real Madrid New Stadium Architect

The board of directors at Real Madrid has chosen L35, one of Spain's greatest architectural firms, to redesign Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in collaboration with GMP Architekten, the world's leading stadium specialist, and Ribas&Ribas, Spain's leading hotel specialized architectural firm.

The new envelope can take any form, but its geometry was carefully planned. The highlighted lines indicate energy and drive, while the curving volumes can reflect light in various ways.

The stadium's volume can expand or contract without changing its overall form or character, allowing it to visually dominate its surroundings without compromising its support program.

The perforations in the cladding can either let light in or keep it out, depending on the design. Despite the high-tech component, the assembly procedure is rather straightforward because the skin design is based on lines, and huge sections can be constructed in a factory setting.

The new roof is structurally sound and beautifully conceived. The concrete columns serve as a stable base for a compression beam. The inner ring rests on tensioned wires supported by the outer ring. The entire roof is hoisted into place by being installed on the pitch.
